Description

The K-ASSAY®Human Matrix Metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) ELISA is an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative determination of MMP-2 in human cell culture supernatant, serum and plasma.

MMP-2, also known as gelatinase A, is a 72- kDa enzyme involved in cleaving components of the extraceullar matrix and signal transduction molecules. MMPs are as latent pro-enzymes that are activated by proteolytic cleavage. MMP-2 can be activated extracellularly by proteases or intracellularly by S-glutathiolation. It plays an essential role in angiogenesis and arteriogenesis.

MMP-2 expression is increased in tissue ischemia associated with some cancers as well as cardiovascular and kidney diseases.
