Lipid Peroxides Assay

BioMarkers | Diabetic Nephropathy | Oxidative Stress

Description

The K-ASSAY®LPO-CC (Lipid Peroxides) is a quantitative assay of lipid peroxides in serum, plasma and other biological samples.

Lipid peroxides are produced by free radical- mediated oxidation and degradation of lipids in cell membranes, resulting in cell damage. Unsaturated fatty acids are the common target due to their multiple double bonds and methylene bridges (-CH2-) that contain reactive hydrogen atoms. This self-perpetuating’ process of fatty acid free radical generation ultimately leads to the production of reactive aldehydes, such as malondialdehyde (MDA) and 4-hydroxynonenal.

Lipid peroxides are useful biomarkers of oxidative stress, which is associated with various acute and chronic humans diseases. Enhanced lipid peroxidation have been observed in patients with hypertension, nephropathy, and diabetes.
