Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) ELISA
BioMarkers | Diabetic Nephropathy | Oxidative Stress
Description
The K-ASSAY® Human Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) ELISA is for the quantitative determination of human SOD in serum, plasma, cell culture supernatant body fluid and tissue homogenate.
SOD catalyzes the conversion of superoxide anion radical to hydrogen peroxide and oxygen. There are three isoforms of SOD in mammals: the cytoplasmic Cu/ZnSOD (SOD1), the mitochondrial MnSOD (SOD2), and the extracellular Cu/ZnSOD (SOD3). SODs are the major antioxidant defense system against superoxide radicals.
Dysregulated expression and activity of SOD is associated with conditions with a strong oxidative stress component such as aging, cardiovascular and chronic kidney diseases.
